Wood Decay Fungi Identification Workshop 木材腐朽真菌辨認工作坊

Wood decay by fungi can lead to the deterioration of wood structure and strength. Timely identification and management are crucial for maintaining the health of trees and public safety.

The presence of fungal fruiting bodies on various parts of a tree can indicate varying degrees of decay, and precise identification is crucial in deciding whether to prescribe mitigation or control measures as part of tree risk management. However, identifying fungi in the field can be challenging because of the multitude of species with similar shapes, colors, and appearances that change as they mature. In this workshop and field trip, Dr. Alvin Tang (鄧銘澤), a distinguished mycologist and committed educator, will impart his valuable expertise on fungal identification and discuss possible mitigation strategies for disease management.

真菌引起的木材腐朽會損害木材的結構強度。及時的識別和管理對於維護樹木的健康和公共安全至關重要。

由於樹木不同部位出現的真菌子實體可能代表木材腐朽的不同階段，因此精準的辨認對於決定應否在樹木風險管理中制定緩解或控制措施尤其重要。然而，由於眾多真菌在形狀、顏色以及成熟階段的變化使它們樣子極為相似，大大增加了辨認的難度。在講座及野外考察中，著名真菌學家兼教育工作者鄧銘澤(Alvin)博士將分享他在真菌識別方面的豐富經驗，並討論一些病害管理緩解措施。
